Guidance

Welcome to Ms. Anderson's Guidance Page

"The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn't been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like him." ~ Pablo Casals

The guidance program at Valley Institute embraces this statement as we motivate our students to better themselves, both as individuals and in their relationships with others.  All students in grades preschool through fifth receive classroom guidance lessons throughout the year.  Individual and small group counseling is offered as well, based on needs.

Elementary guidance is both developmental and preventive in nature.  With this in mind, I listen to you, as parents, along with your child and his or her teacher to promote healthy life skills and give your child coping skills to deal with the stressors he faces now and in the future.  Guidance SOLs are built around three domains: the personal/social; the academic; and the career exploration domain.  My goal is to build character and career skills in your child, as well as social and emotional resiliency.

      Classroom Guidance topics covered include:

  •  Character Education in all grades, to include respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness and citizenship
  • Manners and Social Skills
  • Cooperation and Teamwork
  • Anger Management
  • Conflict Resolution and Decision Making
  • Transition and Change
  • Career Exploration
  • Study and Test Taking Skills
  • Bullying Prevention

Please feel free to call me, e-mail me, or stop in and visit your child's guidance class!  You are always welcome!  It is an honor to work with you and your child and be your child's Guidance Counselor at Valley!
